FAQ
What makes UHMW Plastic so tough?
- UHMW was originally developed for ballistic protection and the defense industry. While it is a rather expensive material that is also hard to work with, the benefits are clear in that it offers impact and wear resistance that no other plastic can offer. It is also extremely flexible, letting your motorcycle frame flex. Another benefit to UHMW is the low friction coefficient. Used as artificial ice in some ski rinks, UHMW helps you slide over obstacles in your sleep! Lastly, UHMW is very lightweight.
what makes our skidplates so durable?
- Material: UHMW. That’s all we have to say! See more above.
- Bracketry: We use billet aluminum and/or stainless steel bracketry. These materials in conjunction with good design practice, are extremely durable and corrosion resistant. Making our product last!
- Fitment: Most of our skidplates are designed to cover the front of the frame as much as possible. This prevents mud build up and weight gain while riding. We incorporate side ears onto our plates to help with side impacts, and we balance the size of the skidplate to add maximum protection while still giving you room for those mid-air downshifts and split-second braking decisions.
Do I need added linkage protection on my skidplate?
- Generally speaking, if you are running into rocks and logs on a daily basis, yes. The linkage guard not only helps protect the linkage from damage, it also helps the motorcycle slide over obstacles easier.
- For most skidplates, we do offer a glideplate version with less protection, but also less weight.
- For KTM models with PDS suspension, a linkage guard may not be necessary, although it does not hurt.
What makes our handguards amazing?
- Material: UHMW. That’s all we have to say! See more above.
- Flex: Being made from UHMW, even the stiffest option handguards offer a good amount of flex when accidentally (or on purpose!) brushing your handlebars up against a tree or rock ledge. When navigating those tight tree sections, our handguards will flex upon impact, keeping you on course, rather than deflecting. It’s truly an amazing feeling!
- Durability: The aluminum mounts are extremely stout. Everything has enough flex and material property match to last a longgg time.
- Real Estate: Our mounts don’t take up more than 3/8” on your handlebars. Leaving more room for turn signals and nitrous buttons!
- Style: We have a style for everyone. Choose between wrap-arounds, enduro flags, and moto flags.
Are all components made in the USA?
- Almost completely. We source our material from US distributors. Our parts are all built by us. Small items like nuts or bolts may be purchased from overseas, if we cannot find a US distributor.
